
Iranian state television says Tehran will hold 10 days of ground, naval and missile exercises starting this week. The naval exercise "The Great Prophet Six" started monday 27th of june and includes the test firing of the new "Sajjil" long range missle. With it's strikingrange more than 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles). Iran is now capable of striking European targets.
State TV says medium- and short-range missiles, drone aircraft and the country's air defense systems will also take part in the drills.
General Ali Hajizadeh, chief of the Revolutionary Guards' aerospace department, says the drill comes in response to a growing U.S. presence in the region.
Iran regularly holds military exercises, and is pressing ahead with a military missile program that is capable of reaching Israel, U.S. bases in the Gulf and parts of southeast Europe.
On the first day of the exercises, Iran unveiled underground missile silos and fired Fateh (Conquerer)-110 missile.
The spokesman for The Great Prophet 6 drills General Asghar Qelich-Khani said the silos are part of the swift reaction units of Iran's missile forces.
“The silos are a part of the swift reaction unit of the missile brigade; missiles are stored vertically, ready to be launched against pre-determined targets,” Qelich-Khani said Monday.
